Robert Ethridge's Ride Across America

Dear Friends and Family,

Have you ever wanted to do something or be apart of something, something that changed the life of others and yours along with it? Now's your chance.

My name is Robert Ethridge. I truly have a passion for the sport of cycling, so much so I make my living at it. I am one of the Mangers at the Bike Barn in Rice Village, in addition to being a Sports Massage Therapist. I have decided to take the challenge and put my passion to work by competing in the "Race Across America".

Think for a second, how many persons, close friends that have a family member with cancer, or have died from cancer. My own father passed away 2 1/2 years ago from CML, chronic mylogeneous lukemia.

How can you be a part of it you may ask? Simple; I need to raise $10,000 for this 3,000-mile non-stop transcontinental bike race from Oceanside, California to Atlantic City, New Jersey. This race has both symbolic and practical significance to raising funds for cancer research. Symbolically, this challenging endurance event demonstrates that team work, research, persistence, and ingenuity can triumph over obstacles such as NF and other debilitating cancers. Practically, RAAM provides a way for cyclists to leverage their passion to connect local businesses with MD Anderson Cancer Center and open local and national media forums (e.g., 2-hr NBC Sport, major print and radio media) for corporate sponsors to raise awareness for MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital.

Gifts are deductible on federal tax returns subject to the limits allowed by the IRS (see Internal Revenue Code 170). MD Anderson Cancer Center’s tax number for charitable purposes is 74-6000203. MD Anderson also has options for deductions to 501(c)3 organizations.
